artist's statement

I often paint modeled shapes that suggest real-life objects but retain an
abstract, shrouded, or even dual identity, or represent actual objects in
abstract contexts to exploit a visual world between representation and
abstraction . My hope is to ignite free association and create impressions
meaningful for individual viewers. Although there is nothing didactic in my
work, it sometimes beckons for literal interpretation or specific meaning
that remains solely dependent upon the viewer, and with this I hope to
engage the viewer. Thus, titles reflect what a painting suggests to me, but
do not define the painting.

I have a BS in Fine Arts from Ball State. After spending a few years in
Santa Fe I returned to Indiana and pursued graphic design. I was an Art
Director in both an in-house corporate and ad agency environment for over 11 years. As a freelance graphic artist for the past 14 years I've been able to
pursue oil painting in my home studio with equal attention, and have begun
exhibiting. I was represented in the 2004 IDADA member show, have shown at various times at the Harrison Center, and currently keep work with the LAMP
gallery.
